Usually when residents say they’re placing intubation or trach and it’ll be “10min” they really mean an hour to two hours. Just ask nurse to lyk when to come back to place cEEG.
Patients with intubation don’t rly have head movement restrictions but still ask nurse. For patients with a trach u must always ask the nurse if it’s ok to move head esp adjusting the height of the bed. Most patients with a trach will have a c collar so please be careful.
Rule of thumb if pt is intubated for a max of 2wks and still cannot breath on their own a trach is placed and that’s a permanent hole in the throat for life there’s no undoing and they’re high risk for infection.
